CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

ROBOTICS EXHIBITION May 11, 1998

Second International Conference on
AUTONOMOUS AGENTS (Agents '98)

The 1998 International Conference on Autonomous Agents will host a Robotics Exhibition in conjunction with the conference reception, the evening of May 11, 1998. This exhibition attempts to recapture the excitement generated at the Agents 97 exhibition, where numerous robots and videos were presented and received national television coverage, including CNN.

Exhibitions are sought in four different areas:

  1. Live robot demos appropriate for interacting with humans or operating in close proximity to humans (e.g., entrants in the 1998 AAAI Hors D'Oeurves Anyone? event)
  2. Live robot demos which can be conducted in a self contained space (e.g., the Sony dogs)
  3. Videos of robot demonstrations (3 minutes), clearly highlighting the innovations in agency. Videos will be screened by a committee for effectiveness of presentation and innovative research content. Accepted videos will be edited into a tape loop shown continuously during the reception. Video participants will also have poster space at the reception to answer questions and further highlight their work.
  4. Scrimmage matches for robot competitions. We are negotiating with various competition organizers, please inquire.
Participants will be alloted one page in a handout to describe their presentation, and an easel for a poster.

Please submit a Preliminary Statement of Interest via email to rmurphy@mines.edu by Feb. 28, 1998. In the email include a short description of what you are interested in demonstrating and what type of space/lighting requirements you anticipate needing.

Note: While the exhibition is under space and time constraints imposed by the hotel, participants will have a secured space adjacent to the reception area for set up and testing starting on May 9, and robot storage following the exhibition. The area will have 24 hour a day access. The reception area itself will be available at 12 noon on the day of the reception to test and set up lighting in the actual reception room.
