Changing
Your Major to CIS
For current University of Delaware students the CISC Department handles all
changes of major
into the CIS major (BS, BA and IS) and all applications for a minor in
computer science.
The University admissions office
handles all undergraduate admissions into the CISC major, including incoming
freshmen and transfer students.
HOW TO APPLY:
The CISC Department reviews applications twice each year. Deadlines for
applications are:
Applicants will recieve notification of the admission decision typically
within one month after the deadline.
All applicants must have completed CISC courses up to and including CISC 181 and must have
completed MATH 241 (or MATH 210). If you have not taken these
courses and believe that you have an equivalent
background, then you should discuss your case with the
Chair of the CIS Undergraduate Committee.
You may apply online at at https://www.mvs.udel.edu/sis.html
If you wish to add any remarks, give them to the CIS department secretary in 101 Smith Hall.
HOW SELECTIONS ARE MADE:
The principal criterion for selection is academic performance --- in
general, and especially in CISC and MATH courses. All applicants must
have completed CISC courses up to and including CISC 181 and must have
completed MATH 241 (or MATH 210).
THE CHANCES OF BEING ADMITTED:
To have a good chance of being admitted, you should have a B or better
in CISC 181, have a B- or better in each of your CISC courses taken so far,
a minimum grade of C in each MATH course taken so far, and an overall GPA
above 2.5. (Higher grades in MATH courses are preferred.)
IF YOU ARE NOT ADMITTED:
Students may reapply after improving their grades. Note however that
most CISC courses at the 300 level and above are limited to CISC majors
and CISC minors, therefore unsuccessful applicants should make plans
for an alternate major.
