CISC 452: Telecommunications Systems

Catalog Description:
Presents basic concepts in telecommunications, emphasizing topics such as
SONET, Cell and Frame Relay and multimedia switching. Concepts of the
operation and maintenance of large communications networks are discussed.

Goals:
The student completing this course should have a general knowledge of the
structure of the North American telecommunications network. Design and
operation of public data networks are emphasized.

  • Switching, Signaling and Intelligent Networks - SS7 and the AIN
  • Frame and Cell-based Public Networks

Required Background: Completion of CISC450/650 Computer Networks or CPEG419 Computer Communications Networks.
