The Raymond S. Hyson Memorial Fund is a scholarship fund established in memory of Franklin graduate and Principal, and Baltimore County Superintendent, Raymond S. Hyson.  The fund has, since 1949, provided college scholarships for graduates of Franklin High School in Reisterstown, Maryland.  

Raymond S. Hyson attended Franklin in 1912 for grade 7.  In 1915 he reentered Franklin High School and graduated in June 1917.  His association with Franklin resumed when he served as Principal from 1928 to 1934 (during which time he also served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 315 in Reisterstown!).  Later, from 1946 to 1948 he was Superintendent of Baltimore County Schools.  Raymond S. Hyson passed away in 1948 while still serving as Superintendent.

In June of 1948 the Franklin Alumni Association voted to sponsor a scholarship as a memorial to Raymond S. Hyson, and in 1951, under the direction of Morris Baker (Chairman 1951-1972), Helen T. Reese, Milson C. Raver, Donald L. Christhilf and Ernest E. Wooden, the Raymond S. Hyson Memorial Fund was incorporated under the Maryland State Tax Commission.

Since it's inception, the Raymond S. Hyson Memorial Fund has provided 94 college scholarships to Franklin graduates.  Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community involvement, and financial need.  

The Board of Trustees of the Raymond S. Hyson fund includes Franklin graduates, Franklin teachers (active and retired), the Franklin Principal, and members of the Reisterstown community.  The current board also includes one former recipient of a Hyson scholarship. 

Funding of the Raymond S. Hyson Memorial Scholarships is provided from the interest earned on the funds currently held.  The fund depends on the contributions of alumni and friends of Franklin High School to maintain and increase its scholarship support of Franklin graduates.
