Internal Funding Opportunities
There is a UD University Competitive Fellowship open to all graduate students, two students may be nominated by each department every year. Interested students should contact their advisor. For a complete list of UD fellowship programs and their descriptions, please see the graduate catalog.

The following are a list of external funding opportunities for fellowships and internships. Please e-mail gibson@udel.edu if you know of any other
opportunities or previous UD graduate CIS recipients.
Fellowships
- NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP)
Competitive three year fellowship awarded to 1000 applicants annually in all branches of science. In 2005, 20-25 of the 1000 were awarded to computer scientists. Applicants must be US citizens or nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the US. Applicants must not have completed more than a full year of graduate studies.

- National Physical Science
Consortium (NPSC)
Offers two programs:
- Traditional NPSC Program. Initial support may be for two or three years,
or for a full six years, depending on the employer-sponsor. Students typically
apply while seniors in college.
- Dissertation Support Program. A fellowship program that provides support
while the graduate student conducts dissertation research. Students should apply
in the year prior to the beginning of their dissertation research program, but
not before they can describe their intended research in general terms.
- National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (ASEE NDSEG)
Three year fellowships awarded to US citizens or nationals in a number of different scientific disciplines. Applicants must not have completed more than a full year of graduate studies.
- DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF)
Applicants must be either U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens pursuing a PhD and in their first or second year of graduate studies in the physical, engineering, computer, mathematical, or life sciences. Fellowship is four year renewable.
- NASA's Graduate Student Research Program (NASA GSRP)
Applicants must be U.S. citizens. A list of all NASA's fellowships can be found here.
- The National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program (Space Grant)
Delaware's Space Grant College and Fellowship Program.
Applicant must indicate how thesis relates to NASA mission. Recipients must be U.S. Citizens. Renewable award contingent upon acceptance into an aerospace-related graduate program.
- Harriett G. Jenkins Predoctoral Fellowship Program
Provides up to three years of support for women, minorities, or people with disabilities. Eligible fields of study include mathematics, science, engineering, and technology. Includes a six week internship at a NASA center.
- AT&T Labs Fellowship Program (ALFP)
Three year fellowship available to minority and women students who are U. S. Citizens or Permanent Residents and who are pursuing PhD studies in computer and communications-related fields. Includes a summer internship with AT&T Labs the first summer of the fellowship.

- IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Program
The IBM Ph.D. Fellowship is an annual, worldwide competitive program. One year award may be renewed for up to three years. Students must be nominated by a faculty member.
- Microsoft Research Graduate Fellowship Program
Applications for two year awards accepted through university contacts only and are not transferable to another academic institutions. Preference will be given to students completing their second or third year in a Ph.D. program. Maximum of three applicants per department, per university.
- nVIDIA Fellowship Program
Students must have already complete their first year of Ph.D. level studies and be a member of an active research team.
