Research Interests


I am interested in the area of Natural Language Processing, and more specifically in Text Mining techniques applied to the biomedical domain. Currently, I am researching different ways of identifying key terms relevant to genes. Please see Publications for papers and posters on this subject.

Relation Extraction
implemented a relation extraction systen in Java, similar to the one described by Dmitry Zelenko

Fall 05, Spring 06

Text Simplification
researched ways to simplify relative clauses and reduced relative clauses from sentences (applied on biomedical domain); built a system (Simp) in Perl that works with different types of simplifications by applying manual rules. I worked on this project together with Peter Cline.

researched different ways to summarize documents using lexical chains
