The 2024 CIS Career Fair attracted over 360 students who attended the fair to pursue future career paths

On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Department of Computer and Information Sciences hosted its annual career fair. The event brought in 360 attendees and featured 17 companies such as the Social Security Administration, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Vanguard, and more.

“This year’s event was a huge success and provided a great opportunity for our students to meet and talk with potential employers,” Said Greg Silber, Associate Instructor for the department of CIS and co-coordinator of the fair. “We were happy to be able to provide a focused career event where they could talk to employers looking for their specific skill sets.”

Among the students present was Charmaine Pasicolan, a senior Computer Science major. As a result of attending the career fair, Pasicolan was able to enhance professional skills in a real-world setting.

“From putting on business attire and delivering elevator pitches to learning how to converse confidently with company representatives, these are skills we can only improve through repetition,” said Pasicolan.

Industry-specific career fairs, such as the CIS event, play a vital role in connecting students with employers who are looking for specialized skills and knowledge.

“This was an opportunity-dense event for students seeking roles in tech,” said Nazim Karaca, Instructor for the department of CIS and co-coordinator alongside Silber. “The recruiters were paying for the privilege of accessing our students, looking specifically to fill tech positions, and seemed impressed with the quality of students attending UD.”
